On 30th May 2013, a team consisting of the Chief Executive Officer, HR Manager, and the Customer Relations Officer, visited Ilima Agripark at the University of Fort Hare. The Ilima Agripark Project is a partnership of Eastern Cape Rural Communities, University of Fort Hare, Government and private entities. The main aim of the project is to improve job and food security in rural communities. The implementation plan for this Project started in September 2011 and the project is mainly supervised by Professors at the university of Fort Hare
ACS donated funds to support the food programme by purchasing dried vegetable soup from Agripark for distribution to the ten local schools within the Agripark community area. These soup parcels were presented to the schools during the ACS visit at Illima Park. The schools and some members of the local community participated in the presentation as well as the orientation of the Agripark soup production process.
The Agripark project is running the full chain of production operations – from nursery to food processing to storage. The accumulated stock of processed dry vegetables and soup is made available for the School Nutrition Programme which has been earmarked as the market entry for the programme. The project currently employs about 50 local men and women from the local communities.
